A suspected impaired driver crashed a Nissan Frontier through a brick wall and into a backyard swimming pool in Gilbert, Arizona, on Saturday morning.
The vehicle left Elliott Road shortly before 11am on 19 September before ploughing through the wall near Ocean Drive, according to the Gilbert Police Department. The driver was not injured but was taken to hospital for further assessment.
The impact left a large opening in the wall, while parts of the truck remained in the pool. Police also reported finding alcohol cans in the water.
Russ Oxman, who lives at the property, said the scene was difficult to comprehend when he discovered the vehicle in his pool.
“It was just surreal, absolutely unrealistic,” he said, adding that the incident sent his blood pressure to “an unhealthy high level”.
The truck’s fuel and other fluids turned the pool water grey. Oxman said it would have to be drained and refilled because the contamination could not be removed through filtration.
Recovery crews spent several hours removing the vehicle, using multiple tow trucks fitted with cranes. The operation caused further damage to the pool tiles, Oxman said.
“It’s nothing you’d ever imagine would happen,” he said.
