Two Wendy’s employees have been arrested after allegedly breaking into a McDonald’s worker’s car in a fast-food parking lot in Georgia.
The incident happened on September 12 at the McDonald’s at Thomas Crossroads on Highway 34 in Newnan, Coweta County, where the victim saw two men in Wendy’s uniforms taking his backpack from his vehicle.
The McDonald’s employee recognised one of the suspects, who had reportedly applied for a job at the restaurant several weeks earlier. He followed the pair towards a nearby Kroger store and called 911.
Suspect found hiding behind shelves
Deputies reviewing security footage saw one of the men enter the supermarket while carrying the stolen backpack. Officers then found 33-year-old Jonathan Glass hiding behind shelves in a backroom and arrested him.
Cpl Jacob Herbert, of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, said deputies had been told that one suspect might still be inside the store.
“Our deputies had information that one of the suspects might still be hiding inside the Kroger and ultimately located him hiding behind some shelves and were able to take him into custody,” he said.
The investigation then led officers to a Wendy’s restaurant on Highway 34, where they found 18-year-old Joshua Hayes working behind the counter.
Deputies said Hayes matched the person shown in surveillance images and arrested him at the restaurant.
Both men were booked into Coweta County Jail and charged with entering an automobile or other motor vehicle with intent to commit a crime.
It has not been confirmed whether the backpack was fully recovered.
A local Facebook page later referred to the two suspects as “the square patty duo”, in a reference to Wendy’s square burgers and the rivalry between the two fast-food chains.
