An economic squeeze could make affordability a key concern for US voters as the country heads towards the midterm elections, a senior economist has warned.
Mihir Torsekar said Americans on the lower end of the economy were feeling the effects of higher borrowing costs and weaker purchasing power.
Speaking to the “This is America” programme, Mr Torsekar said the pressures were affecting households’ ability to afford goods and manage rising borrowing costs.
His comments suggest the economic squeeze could influence voter concerns ahead of the midterms, with affordability emerging as a potentially important issue.
