Florian Wirtz scored his first Premier League goal of the season as Liverpool moved 2-0 ahead against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
The German international struck in the 60th minute, applying a composed first-time finish to a delivery from Bradley Barcola and sending the ball beyond the goalkeeper.
Ronald Araujo began the move by holding off the defenders before finding Barcola with a pass from deep. The French winger then used his pace to beat his marker and send the ball across the penalty area for Wirtz to convert.
The goal came after sustained pressure in an entertaining contest in south London and prompted celebrations among the travelling Liverpool supporters.
Wirtz ends Premier League goal drought
Wirtz’s breakthrough ended a domestic scoring drought that had added to the pressure surrounding the playmaker after a difficult start to the campaign.
The 23-year-old has produced flashes of quality during the season, and his first Premier League goal should provide a significant boost as he looks to build on the landmark strike.
