A 48-year-old man has been taken to hospital after allegedly being stabbed in the hand by a woman on King Street in Newtown, Sydney. Police later used a Taser to arrest the 27-year-old woman, who was allegedly carrying a knife.
Emergency services were called to the busy shopping area, outside a cinema, at about 11.40am on Monday after reports of an assault.
Officers from the Inner West Police Area Command found the injured man, who was not known to the woman, according to police allegations. Paramedics treated him at the scene before taking him to hospital in a stable condition.
Police searched the surrounding area and located the woman nearby. Officers allege she was armed with a knife and failed to comply when ordered to drop it.
A Taser was deployed before she was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station, where inquiries are continuing.
Detectives have established a crime scene on King Street as they investigate the circumstances of the alleged attack.
The section of King Street between Church Street and Wilson Street remains closed in both directions, with motorists urged to avoid the area.
