Angelina Jolie was joined by her 21-year-old daughter Zahara at a New York screening of Without Blood on Monday night, as the actress prepares to present her latest film to audiences.
The film is due to arrive in cinemas on Friday, September 18. Jolie directed and produced the project, which stars Salma Hayek and Demian Bichir.
Without Blood is described as a parable-like story exploring family, war and revenge. It is based on Alessandro Baricco’s novel and examines themes of trauma, memory and healing.
“Alessandro Baricco’s ‘Without Blood’ examines universal truths about trauma, memory and healing,” Jolie said in a statement. “The emotional intimacy and openness that our cast and crew brought to this film was extraordinary and exciting to be around. I hope that Salma and Demián’s brave performances will inspire the type of conversation that Baricco sought in writing the novel.”
Hayek praised the experience of working with Jolie behind the camera, describing it as “a profoundly enriching experience”.
“Her emotional intelligence and searing sensitivity bring to life a story about how the wounds we carry shape who we become, and the strength it takes to carry on,” Hayek said.
She added that she was “so thrilled” that Brainstorm was bringing the film, which she called a visually stunning tale of “revenge, guilt, and the long road back to our own humanity”, to US cinemas.
Jolie and Hayek previously appeared together in the Marvel film Eternals.
