A 16-year-old has been charged after an SUV struck six teenagers walking on a pavement in Lindenwold, New Jersey, leaving one victim trapped beneath the vehicle.
The driver, who has not been named because he is a minor, faces one count of second-degree aggravated assault, six counts of third-degree aggravated assault and one count of joyriding, according to police.
He was taken to the Camden County Juvenile Detention Centre following the crash on Tuesday, October 6.
The collision happened at about 2.11pm on the 400 block of East Gibbsboro Road, between South Berlin Road and Emerson Avenue. Police said the vehicle left the road and struck the group as they walked along the pavement.
Fire and rescue crews lifted the vehicle to free one teenager who had become trapped underneath. The victim was flown to Cooper University Hospital, while the five other teenagers were taken to local hospitals by ambulance.
The injured teenagers were aged between 14 and 16. Police initially said their conditions had not been released, although there were no reported fatalities.
Two people inside the vehicle were detained at the scene as officers began their investigation. The circumstances leading to the crash remain under review.
