RJ Mitte, the actor known for playing Walter White Jr in Breaking Bad, has died aged 34. A county official said he died in Texas on Monday and that his death was being treated as suicide.
Law enforcement said the investigation remains ongoing.
In a statement, Mitte’s representatives described him as a “beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate”.
They said Mitte drew on his own experience of cerebral palsy for his performance in the acclaimed AMC series, helping to raise awareness of disability and inclusion.
“Beyond entertaining friends and family around the world, he served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s,” his representatives said.
Mitte appeared in 56 episodes of Breaking Bad. His other credits included The Oak Room, The Recall and The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!).
He spoke last week on The Joe Vulpis Podcast about the impact of Breaking Bad on his life and his continuing relationship with cast members after the series ended.
Earlier this month, he was pictured with his Breaking Bad co-star Luis Moncada in social media posts. Mitte had been engaged to Kennedy Suarez after proposing last year following several years of dating.
His representatives said he had also served as president of The Mitte Foundation, supporting philanthropic and community initiatives while challenging stereotypes and promoting greater representation for people with disabilities.
“At this time, we ask people to respect the privacy of RJ Mitte’s family and close ones,” they said.
