The Sydney Swans’ Brownlow Medal count party has been finalised, with Charlie Curnow, Dane Rampe, Brodie Grundy, Logan McDonald and Tom McCartin set to attend in Melbourne on Monday night if the club lose their preliminary final against Fremantle.
Isaac Heeney and Chad Warner remain eligible for the award but have been barred from attending the count in the wake of a sexual assault investigation. Their absence has kept the Swans’ guest list closely guarded until the final RSVPs were confirmed.
Grundy appears to be the strongest prospect among those invited. The AFL’s Brownlow predictor has him polling 15 votes, while Curnow, Rampe, McDonald and McCartin are forecast to collect 11 votes between them.
Heeney is still listed by the predictor as Sydney’s leading expected vote-getter, with 23 votes. That could leave the Swans’ table facing an awkward evening if the midfield star’s name is repeatedly called during the count.
The five invited players will only be in the room if Sydney’s campaign ends against the Dockers. A win would send the Swans through to the grand final and mean the group does not attend the Brownlow Medal presentation.
