Anthea Turner has revealed the results of a non-surgical facelift after completing six monthly Focus Dual treatments to address loose skin around her neck and jawline.
The 66-year-old former GMTV presenter said the change had been noticeable enough for some bus drivers to question whether she was old enough to use her Freedom Pass.
“Since having these aesthetic treatments there have been quite a few occasions when I try to use my Freedom Pass and the bus driver asks, ‘You’re not, are you?’ and I have to persuade them that I am indeed 66 years old!” she said.
Turner sought advice at Bodyvie, an aesthetic clinic in Richmond, south-west London, after becoming increasingly conscious of her ageing appearance. She said she had particularly noticed loose skin beneath her jaw and around her neck.
“I think you get to an age where you suddenly stand in front of the mirror and start pulling your skin tighter around your face,” she said.
She said she and her friends would pull the skin at the top of their necks back to see how a sharper jawline might look, adding: “I don’t have a girlfriend of mine in my age group who doesn’t do that, and you go, ‘Oh, that would look nice.’”
The Focus Dual system uses micro-needling and radio frequency technology. Turner said she wanted a treatment that was safe, involved little downtime and produced natural-looking results.
“We decided that the best thing to do was slow and low,” she said. “I don’t want to lose the plumpness that I already have in my face, that I’ve held on to.”
Each full-face and neck session took about an hour and cost £500. Turner said numbing cream was applied beforehand and described the discomfort as “maybe a three, if that” on a scale of one to ten.
She added that any redness was limited. “I would say that if I had a procedure at 1 o’clock in the afternoon, by the next day, maybe I would look a little bit pink, but nothing that I couldn’t hide with make-up and go out.”
Turner said the treatment had improved the appearance of her jawline and the quality of the skin on her neck, while allowing her to retain volume in her face.
“The fact is that when you start using the Focus Dual not only do you get a much tighter jaw, you get a better quality of skin on your neck, and your neck has got very thin skin on it,” she said.
She said she was surprised when she first saw photographs comparing her appearance before and after the course.
“This is me eight months ago, and me now. My goodness me, I can see a difference,” she said. “I definitely can. You see, again, you know, it’s the quality of the skin. Look after your skin. Really, really important.”
Turner now plans to have a maintenance treatment every three to four months. She said the improvements had continued after the course and advised anyone considering the procedure not to judge it after only a small number of sessions.
“You do the course. And even when you’ve done the course, it carries on improving,” she said.
