A $100,000 donation will help Honor Flight Arizona send ageing military veterans from Phoenix to Washington DC to visit the memorials dedicated to their service.
Veterans gathered at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport as they prepared to make the journey, with the charity covering the cost of the trip for those taking part.
Honor Flight Arizona organises flights for veterans of the Second World War, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Its mission is to give those who served the chance to see the memorials in the US capital built in their honour.
The organisation’s sponsorship information says a $100,000 contribution can fund one flight carrying 35 veterans, alongside 17 guardians and four support staff, with travel and other trip expenses included. ([honorflightaz.org](https://honorflightaz.org/get-involved/sponsors/))
For many of the veterans leaving Sky Harbor, the visit represents an opportunity to reflect on their service and see places they may have waited decades to visit.
