David Raya has revealed that Gabriel Magalhaes told him to “just f****** drop me over” during a heated exchange after Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Wolves last season.
The disagreement followed a late Wolves equaliser, which completed a comeback from two goals down and left Arsenal frustrated by a defensive mix-up. Raya said the centre-back’s outburst came as the pair argued on the pitch.
David Raya and Gabriel’s Arsenal row
Recalling the incident on the Beyond The Box podcast, Raya said Gabriel told him: “Just f****** drop me over, just k*ll me! I don’t care!”
The goalkeeper suggested the exchange was rooted in the circumstances of the goal rather than any lasting dispute between the team-mates.
“You can say it is my fault because I dropped it, you can say it is his fault because he should have moved,” Raya said. “At the end of the day, s*** happens. It is what it is. It is just football, you cannot explain every single action.”
Arsenal recovered from the setback by beating Tottenham 4-1 in their next match. Mikel Arteta’s side also suffered defeats by Bournemouth and Manchester City during the campaign but finished strongly enough to win the Premier League title.
Raya and Gabriel were both important to that success, while also helping Arsenal reach only the second Champions League final in the club’s history.
