Atlanta and much of North Georgia are facing another week of intense heat, with temperatures expected to reach 96-97°F (36-36°C) in the hottest areas on Monday, 14 September.
Monday is forecast to be the warmest day of the week, with readings near 90°F (32°C) in the mountains. High humidity could make it feel around five degrees hotter during the afternoon.
Atlanta began the day at 73°F (23°C), extending a run of unusually mild mornings in which temperatures have stayed above 70°F (21°C).

There is little relief in sight during the afternoons, with temperatures of 90°F or higher expected to continue through the weekend.
The more noticeable change will come in the humidity. Drier air arriving later in the week should make mornings and evenings more comfortable, particularly on Thursday and Friday, when some overnight temperatures could drop into the 60s.
Even then, afternoon temperatures are expected to rebound into the 90s.
Monday should remain mostly sunny, dry and hot across North Georgia, although a few showers could approach the far north-east of the state.
More easterly and north-easterly winds are expected on Tuesday, bringing increased cloud cover to north-east Georgia, especially areas north of Interstate 20. The change may keep some communities below 90°F, while Atlanta and areas to its west see more sunshine.
Brighter skies are forecast to return on Wednesday, but the heat will remain. The weekend is also expected to stay mainly dry, with highs in the 90s, while a 20 per cent chance of rain is forecast to return on Sunday.
