The body of a 31-year-old woman from Colorado has been recovered from a burial site behind a garage in Amarillo, Texas, after police arrested a local man in connection with a suspected shooting.
Amarillo Police identified the woman as Faith Smith. Investigators said they received information on 1 October that she had been shot inside a vehicle before being buried somewhere in the city.
Detectives interviewed potential witnesses and identified 48-year-old Leonard Torres as a suspect. Officers later found him driving the vehicle believed to be connected to the case and detained him after a brief pursuit.

Information obtained during the investigation led police to a property in the 3100 block of Orange Street, in the Hamlet neighbourhood. Crime-scene investigators and homicide detectives found a burial site behind a detached garage that was still under construction.
Ms Smith’s body was recovered from the site and sent for an autopsy. Police have not released further details about the circumstances of her death or said whether additional charges will be brought.
Torres was booked into the Potter County Detention Centre on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The charge is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The Amarillo Police Department’s homicide unit said the investigation remained active.
