Matt Jones has paid tribute to his former Breaking Bad co-star RJ Mitte, saying he is devastated by the actor’s death and regrets declining an invitation to meet him because he was tired.
Jones, who played Brandon “Badger” Mayhew in the AMC drama, said the pair last saw one another in January 2025. They had joked together while appearing in the background of a group photograph and spoken about their lives.
Mitte had been making plans for the future and wanted Jones to visit his new home in Texas. The two had also discussed going to a club owned by fellow Breaking Bad actor Steven Michael Quezada.
Jones said he later backed out of the planned outing because he was tired. Reflecting on the decision, he wrote: “I’m so sorry.”
He said he had first met Mitte 19 years ago, when Mitte was 15, and ended his tribute by describing him as “a little brother to all of us”. Jones added: “I’m beyond devastated. You were a little brother to all of us. I’m so so sorry.”
Mitte, who played Walter White Jr throughout Breaking Bad’s five-season run, died by suicide on Monday aged 34.
Bryan Cranston, who played his on-screen father Walter White, and Aaron Paul, who portrayed Jesse Pinkman, have also paid tribute to their late co-star.
