Britney Spears has told fans she hopes to become a mother again, sharing a video in which she dances with a ukulele and reflects on the possibility of a third child.
The clip, posted to the singer’s social media and reported by TMZ, shows the 44-year-old performing with the instrument while smiling for the camera. The accompanying caption struck a more reflective note. “It’s an emotional day for me,” she began, before describing how guitars remind her of baby aliens and how she is drawn to their gentle strings.
According to TMZ, Spears went on to reveal that she had bought the ukulele during a trip to Mexico “in hopes one day I can have another baby.” She did not explain why she regards the instrument as significant. The Grammy winner, who already has two teenage sons from her marriage to Kevin Federline, has not previously spoken publicly about plans to expand her family.
The post arrives during a turbulent period for the star. In March, Spears was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after being pulled over in Westlake Village, on the boundary between Ventura and Los Angeles counties. CBS News, citing the reporting officer, said she appeared unsteady and that a bottle of Adderall not prescribed to her was found in her vehicle, alongside a wine glass. TMZ reported that the pills had been brought back from Mexico, and that such trips were among the reasons for her frequent visits south of the border.
Spears checked into a treatment facility in the weeks that followed. In May, her lawyer entered a guilty plea on her behalf to a reduced charge of reckless driving involving alcohol, a violation known in California as “wet reckless.” NBC News reported that she was sentenced to 12 months’ probation and one day in jail, credited as time served, by Ventura County Court Commissioner Matthew Nemerson. Under the terms of the deal, the original DUI charge was dismissed and she agreed to complete a three-month driving course.
“Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct,” her attorney, Michael Goldstein, said in a statement reported by TMZ and Deadline. He added that she had taken significant steps towards positive change and was grateful for the support she had received.
Spears remains on probation for the coming year.
