Jamie Carragher has criticised Jeremie Frimpong’s display for Liverpool in their defeat by Manchester City, saying the right-back was “all over the place” during the match.
The former Liverpool defender singled out Frimpong after Rayan Cherki went past him with ease in the move that led to Manchester City’s third goal.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: “We can talk about Man City, how much money they’ve spent on what players they’ve brought in, whether it’s been legally or not. But Rayan Cherki is one of them quality players.
“He has been since he arrived at the club. The less said about Jeremie Frimpong the better, he’s all over the place.”
Frimpong yet to settle at Liverpool
Frimpong joined Liverpool last season after an impressive spell with Bayer Leverkusen, but the Netherlands international has struggled to look fully settled in the side.
His performance has intensified questions over Liverpool’s recruitment, with the 25-year-old yet to convince as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold following the defender’s departure.
Carragher also pointed to Manchester City’s ability to add quality without always paying the highest fees, using Cherki as an example of a player who did not cost a fortune but has made a strong impression since arriving at the club.
The criticism comes during a difficult period for Liverpool, who have also been accused of failing to adequately replace Mohamed Salah while losing other prominent players including Ibrahima Konate and Luis Diaz.
