Manchester United are not currently looking for a new manager to replace Michael Carrick, despite a difficult opening to the season and an early Carabao Cup exit.
United have won only two of their six matches in all competitions, but there is no indication that the club is preparing to change manager. Carrick is expected to remain in charge as he attempts to improve the team’s fortunes at Old Trafford.
The former United midfielder was appointed permanently after impressing during an interim spell last season and has only been in the role for a short period. The club is understood to be willing to give him more time rather than immediately pursue a replacement.

The approach reflects United’s desire for greater stability after a succession of managerial changes since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure. David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim have all struggled to establish sustained success.
Carrick’s position may draw comparisons with Solskjaer, who also moved from a playing role at the club into the manager’s job. However, United’s current preference appears to be continuity, with the club hoping that a settled structure can eventually produce the kind of progress Arsenal have enjoyed under former player Mikel Arteta.
Results will nevertheless need to improve. United will be expected to avoid drifting in and out of the Premier League’s top four, a pattern that has affected the club repeatedly in recent years.
