Chad Lowe’s daughter Fiona has died aged 13, prompting messages of support from actors Cary Elwes and Marlee Matlin.
The family said Fiona was “a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance”, adding that she was “deeply loved by her parents” and “the light of our lives”.
In a statement, the family said: “The loss of our beloved Fiona is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.”
They also urged anyone struggling with their mental health to contact the US 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988. No cause of death was given.
Elwes, who appeared alongside Lowe and his brother Rob in the 1984 film Oxford Blues, wrote on Instagram: “Our hearts are broken for you all. Thinking of you and praying for you. Always.”
Matlin, who has been friends with Lowe for nearly four decades, said: “My heart is broken into pieces. Fly high, Fiona Lowe. Love you Chad and Kim.”
Law enforcement sources said Fiona died at home on Tuesday and authorities were called to the property shortly after midnight. Parents at her school were reportedly informed that a student had died, with counsellors made available to students and staff.
Fiona was Lowe’s middle daughter with his wife, producer Kim Painter. The couple also have Mabel, 17, and Nixie, ten, and have been married since 2010.
The actor, who was previously married to Hilary Swank, had last paid tribute to Fiona in November, sharing a photograph of her in cowboy boots.
“Celebrating Fiona officially becoming a teen today!!” he wrote. “Keep dancing through life FiBear! Love you soooo much!!”
Lowe had frequently shared photographs of his daughters and spoken about family life. In 2024, he described having daughters as “such an incredible privilege” and said that being their father was his “life’s greatest joy and privilege”.
The family lost their Los Angeles home in the Palisades fire. In a post last year, Lowe described the devastation of returning to see the ruins with his daughters, praising their “spirit and resilience”.
Lowe won an Emmy in 1993 for his supporting role in the comedy-drama series Life Goes On. He has also appeared in Melrose Place, ER, 24, Pretty Little Liars and Now and Again.
