Chadwick Boseman’s widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, has accused the late actor’s family of making it difficult to produce a documentary about his life.
In court documents, Simone said she was working with production company Words + Pictures and was in the process of securing an offer from Searchlight Pictures to make the film.
She said the proposed agreement would be structured on a “Most Favored Nation basis”, ensuring equal treatment for the family parties. “Both sides of the family were sent identical paperwork,” she said.
Simone claimed members of Boseman’s family then asked the production company to draw up separate agreements. She described this as “yet another example of Simon’s generosity to the Boseman family”.
She also said she retained “100% right to control and benefit from Chadwick’s name, image, voice, signature, likeness etc.”
According to Simone, she has tried to involve Boseman’s relatives in projects intended to honour his legacy, but claimed they had not extended the same courtesy to her.
The dispute comes amid a separate legal challenge involving Boseman’s estate. His brothers are seeking to remove Simone as administrator, alleging that she has not been transparent about its finances.
Simone denies those allegations. She said she had gone above and beyond in working with the family and had provided them with more money than was required.
