Chelsea are increasingly confident of signing Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott in January, with fresh talks reportedly taking place over a deal for the England international.
Ben Jacobs reported that Scott has emerged as Chelsea’s leading target after Enzo Fernandez left for Manchester City on deadline day during the summer. Bournemouth are understood to want more than £100 million for the 23-year-old.
“Chelsea increasingly confident of signing Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott in January,” Jacobs wrote. He added that Xabi Alonso’s side had already resumed discussions after making several bids during the summer.
Chelsea and Scott are also reported to have largely agreed personal terms, suggesting negotiations have progressed beyond initial interest. The remaining focus is understood to be an agreement between the clubs.
Liverpool also interested in Alex Scott
Liverpool remain interested in the Bournemouth midfielder but are said to have less urgency to strengthen in the position during the January window. The Merseyside club are instead considering alternative targets.
Jacobs named Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Roma’s Manu Kone among those options. Chelsea had previously failed to sign Camara on deadline day.
Scott’s potential arrival would give Chelsea an opportunity to address the midfield vacancy created by Fernandez’s late departure. His passing ability is viewed as a way to add greater control and another dimension to Alonso’s side.
Chelsea have significant funds available following Fernandez’s move to Manchester City, meaning Bournemouth’s valuation of more than £100 million may be within their reach. A sale would represent another major departure for Bournemouth, who have previously lost players including Antoine Semenyo, Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez.
