Chelsea have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah, adding further uncertainty to the future of the England international.
Arsenal are understood to have offered €65 million for the 23-year-old during the summer transfer window, but Leverkusen rejected the proposal. Mikel Arteta’s side have continued to monitor the centre-back since then.

Chelsea have now made contact over a possible move for Quansah. It is not clear whether the approach was made to the player’s representatives, Leverkusen, or both.
The defender has become an important figure in Germany since leaving Liverpool, with his development attracting attention from several leading European clubs. Liverpool and Real Madrid are also reportedly keeping watch on his situation.
Quansah moved to Leverkusen from Liverpool last summer in a deal worth €35 million. He enjoyed significantly more regular football after joining the Bundesliga club and made 44 appearances last season, recording more than 3,700 minutes.
His performances also helped him earn recognition with England, further increasing interest in his progress. Liverpool retain a buyback option that could become relevant next summer.
Leverkusen remain in a strong negotiating position, with Quansah contracted to the club until 2030. That long-term deal means any interested side is likely to face a substantial valuation if the defender becomes available.
Arsenal’s previous offer has not ended their interest, while Chelsea’s approach creates another serious contender for the centre-back. With Liverpool and Real Madrid also monitoring developments, Quansah’s position could become a major transfer issue ahead of 2027.
