Giorgio Scalvini has offered Chelsea encouragement by admitting he would like to play abroad at some stage of his career, although the Atalanta defender remains content in Italy for now.
The 22-year-old has attracted transfer interest after impressing in Italian football, with Chelsea among the clubs linked with a possible move for the Italy international.
Chelsea are understood to be seeking greater defensive depth following an unconvincing start to the season, while Scalvini fits the club’s established preference for recruiting highly rated young players.
However, the centre-back indicated that an immediate departure from Atalanta is not his priority. Speaking during a press conference with the Italian national team, he explained that he had extended his stay because he continued to feel comfortable at the club.
“I’ve always been there, and I’ve extended because I’ve always felt good,” Scalvini said.
He added: “At the same time, I understand those who change clubs and go abroad. One day I’d like to do that to learn new things and new concepts, but I’m already doing it at Atalanta.”
Scalvini’s comments suggest that a move to Chelsea or another overseas club is more likely to be a longer-term possibility than an imminent development.
The defender appears willing to test himself outside Italy in the future, but for now he remains focused on continuing his development with Atalanta. A move could become more realistic once he has gained further experience.
