A suspect has been taken into custody after a mass shooting in Detroit left three people dead and four others injured, police chief Todd Bettison said.
The gunfire was reported at about 7am on Sunday, September 27, at an illegal after-hours establishment on Prest Street, between Chalfonte and Eaton avenues.
Detroit police said the three people killed were men aged over 30. The four injured victims, two men and two women, were taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police were alerted to the shooting by ShotSpotter technology, while the department’s Homicide Task Force and Vice Unit assisted with the investigation.
Chief Bettison said the address had previously been known to police, with officers called there seven times since the beginning of the year. He described the venue as operating in a manner similar to a strip club.
A warrant is expected to be sent to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Detroit police are due to provide a further update on Friday, which may include details of charges against the suspect.
