Eleven teenagers were shot during a gathering at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon, Georgia, shortly after midnight on Sunday, 27 September, with two of the victims in critical condition.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were sent to the park after emergency services received reports of gunfire. While officers were travelling to the scene, several injured people were taken to a nearby hospital in private vehicles.
The victims include four 18-year-old males, five 17-year-old males and two 18-year-old females. Medical staff said one 18-year-old male and one 17-year-old male were critically injured, while the other nine victims were stable.
Investigation into Macon park shooting
The hospital was placed on lockdown after a large number of vehicles, relatives and friends arrived. Staff also cordoned off parts of the facility as the injured were treated.
Deputies seized seven vehicles for examination by the crime laboratory. Four had been used to take victims to hospital, while three were left at the park.
Investigators took 10 witnesses to the Criminal Investigation Division for questioning as they worked to establish what led to the shooting and identify those responsible.
No arrests have been announced, and authorities have not named a suspect or disclosed a possible motive. The victims’ names have also not been released.
