Keep Our Republic, a bipartisan coalition focused on protecting the American electoral process and the rule of law, was founded by former House Democratic leader Richard A Gephardt and former Colorado congressman and senator Timothy E Wirth.
The group’s associated figures include former defence secretary and CIA director Leon Panetta, investment banker Theodore Roosevelt V, former Republican congressman Reid J Ribble, former White House press secretary Stephanie A Grisham and Miles Taylor, who served in the administrations of George W Bush and Donald Trump.
Gephardt represented Missouri in the US House from 1977 to 2005 and was House Democratic Leader from 1989 to 2003. Wirth served in the House and Senate from Colorado between 1975 and 2003 before becoming the first US Secretary of State for Global Affairs.
Panetta held senior roles in Democratic administrations, including secretary of defence, director of the Central Intelligence Agency and White House chief of staff. He also served in the House of Representatives from 1977 to 1993.
Ribble, a former Republican representative from Wisconsin, was a co-founder of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus. Grisham served as press secretary and communications director during Donald Trump’s first administration.
Taylor held an appointment in the Department of Homeland Security under administrations led by George W Bush and Mr Trump. In 2018, he wrote an opinion article under the pen name “Anonymous” and followed it with a book the next year.
