Prince Harry has said he slipped into depression for about two weeks after moving to Canada with Meghan Markle, describing an “adrenaline crash” once the stress of his previous life had gone.
The Duke of Sussex discussed his mental state during a MasterClass on grief, saying he had been living in a stressful environment before the couple relocated in 2019 with their son, Prince Archie.
Harry said the move was intended to give the family “some space away from everything just to be able to think”. But, after the pressure eased, he said he struggled to function without the rush of adrenaline.
“It was as if I needed stress in order to get the adrenaline to make my brain function because I became useless around the house,” he said. “I actually slipped into depression for about two weeks and I felt like I couldn’t function without adrenaline.”
Harry and Meghan spent the end of 2019 in Canada before stepping back from their royal duties in early 2020.
The couple are now back in England with their two children. Their return was described as having got off to a difficult start after they withdrew the children from school because of security concerns.
