Tom Hiddleston and his partner Zawe Ashton shared a warm red-carpet appearance at the London premiere of Tenzing on Thursday.
The couple smiled for photographers at Curzon Mayfair, where Hiddleston was joined by co-stars Genden Phuntsok, Willem Dafoe, Caitríona Balfe and Thinley Lhamo, as well as director Jennifer Peedom.
Hiddleston plays New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary in the film, which is based on the true story of Tenzing Norgay, portrayed by Phuntsok.
Tenzing tells the story of Everest ascent
The film follows Norgay, a gifted Himalayan climber, as he works alongside Hillary in an attempt to become the first person to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Encouraged by his wife Dawa, played by Lhamo, Norgay finds support from expedition secretary Jill Henderson, portrayed by Balfe.
The pair persuade Colonel John Hunt, played by Dafoe, that Norgay should be part of the British climbing team rather than serving it. The story explores the tensions between different backgrounds, social classes and ambitions, while also reflecting Norgay’s spiritual connection to Chomolungma, the sacred mother goddess.
Tenzing was an official selection at both the Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival. It will be released in select cinemas on 9 October before arriving on Apple TV on 16 October.
