I first discovered the Luxury Family Hotels group at a point when I was convinced that traveling with young children was never going to be a relaxing experience again. However, finding their hotels – havens for worn-out parents across the UK – was a revelation. The fact they have drop-off stations where you can leave your baby bottles to be sterilised says it all.
Woolley Grange, a stunning 1665 historic manor near Bradford-on-Avon, continues this theme, taking much of the drama out of trips with little ones. It was fully renovated last October, with new garden rooms added in May 2026.
Rooms & Facilities
Accommodation options span the main historic hotel and various offshoot buildings, including the spacious Chapman suite in the Pavilion, where we stayed. It features a huge master bedroom, a children’s room complete with bunk beds and space for a cot, a separate living room and large bathroom.
The aesthetic is a cosy, rustic luxury. The hotel has somehow managed to do a sheep theme tastefully, with tactile wall hangings made from sheepskins and model sheep scattered about the place (which of course the kids always wanted to sit on).
Beyond the rooms, the grounds feature a main playground (with a zip line!), a toddler play area, a sweet fairy garden filled with tiny models, and two pools – a heated outdoor pool and an indoor pool.
Unlike most hotels, which have the odd ‘family hour’ for pool usage, here it is ‘adults time’ that is limited. There is kid-free space to be found, however – during our childcare hours (more on which later) I escaped to the spa area, which has a small outdoor hot tub, sun loungers, and offers an exceptional deep tissue massage.
Food & Drink
Dining at Woolley Grange is tailored to family life, offering earlier dinner slots if required and tables prepped with plastic cutlery, bowls, and plates so nobody has to worry about broken crockery. Guests can dine inside or make use of the lovely outdoor terrace for meals and drinks. The orangery is lovely too.
The dinner menu sticks to high-quality classics done well, ranging from juicy burgers to rich pasta ragù, while the proximity of the main playground allowed my never-chill kids to burn off energy between courses.
Breakfast involves a well-stocked continental buffet of fresh fruit, pastries, and cereals with à la carte dishes like full English breakfasts, shakshuka and most excitingly for my little ones, kids’ bacon sandwiches.
Hotel highlights
A major highlight for parents is the complimentary two hours of daily childcare provided in the Four Bears Den, which caters for children aged three months to eight years old. It’s Ofsted-registered and the kids had a whale of a time, playing with much more exciting toys than they have at home, crafting and drawing. Sessions start at 9.30am and 2.30pm daily.
Equally delightful is the evening cinema club starting at 5.45pm, which begins with a quick 30-minute TV show (suitable for younger kids) before showing two films. My children loved heading down in their dressing gowns to grab warm popcorn straight from a machine, plus milk and cookies, then sinking into squishy bean bags in front of the big screen.
