James Blunt has revealed that his apparent suspicion of Hannah Fry on Celebrity Traitors was part of a secret strategy to keep her in the game.
In the latest episode of the BBC series, Fry and Jerry Hall were the only contestants vulnerable to murder after the remaining Faithfuls received shields.
During the roundtable, Blunt suggested that Hannah could be recruited by the Traitors rather than murdered. He argued that, if there were one murder and one recruitment, the logical move would be to remove Amol, described as a threat to the Traitors, and recruit Hannah, a bigger threat.
The singer, 52, then moved the discussion on, leaving viewers to believe that he was genuinely suspicious of Fry. He has since explained on Instagram that mentioning her name was intended as a red herring.
One commenter suggested that Blunt had raised Hannah’s name to make the Traitors less likely to murder her. “I’d like to think it’s a tactic to keep her in the game. If her name is brought up the traitors are less likely to murder her,” they wrote.
Blunt appeared to confirm the theory with a one-word reply: “Bingo!”
His post does not confirm whether Hannah survives the latest episode, although fans suggested that his decision to reveal the plan could indicate that it worked and she remained in Celebrity Traitors.
