Angelina Jolie’s lawyer has accused Brad Pitt of attempting to control the narrative in their dispute over Château Miraval after a judge rejected the actor’s request for her financial records.
Pitt had asked for Jolie’s financial information from 2017 to 2019 during the former couple’s legal battle over the French winery. The judge ruled that his lawyers had not shown good cause to override Jolie’s privacy interests.
The court said Jolie’s side did not intend to present evidence or argument about her income during those years. However, Pitt can renew the request if her testimony later puts that income at issue.
Paul Murphy, representing Jolie, said the application should never have been brought and argued that Pitt did not need access to her private financial information to defend himself.
“Mr. Pitt’s unyielding demand for harassing information is just the latest manifestation of his attempts to control her and the narratives in this case,” Murphy said.
He added: “What Angelina wants and has always wanted is to untangle her personal and financial life from her ex-husband. Rather than do the right thing and buy her out at an agreed price, Mr. Pitt at the last minute tried to use her exit from Miraval as leverage to force her [to] sign an NDA to cover up his abuse of her and their children.”
Murphy said the case concerned those matters rather than Jolie’s personal income from the period before she sold her stake in the winery.
Jolie sold her interest in Château Miraval in October 2021 to Tenute del Mondo, the wine arm of the Stoli Group. Pitt later sued her, claiming the pair had agreed not to sell their stakes without consulting one another.
Pitt’s representatives have been approached for a response but had not replied.
