Yankuba Minteh remains keen on a move to Liverpool despite the collapse of the Brighton winger’s proposed summer transfer, according to Gambian football expert Baboucarr Fallaboweh.
Liverpool made a serious attempt to sign the 22-year-old before the transfer deadline, but Brighton rejected bids believed to be worth £50 million and £60 million. Minteh’s injury further complicated negotiations and remains the main obstacle to a possible move in January.

Fallaboweh said Minteh would continue to prefer Liverpool if the opportunity arose again, although the player’s immediate prospects have been affected by his fitness problems.
“I think Liverpool. He will still want to go to Liverpool. Depending on [how] Liverpool will activate that desire to still have him,” he said.
“Because right now, his situation has not been helped because he is injured. If not, then you could have more justification for him to showcase his performance why Liverpool were after him.”
The winger was expected to be sidelined until October, meaning Liverpool may need to assess his recovery and form before deciding whether to revive their interest.
“But at the overall situation, even if he moves, I don’t think he will move outside the Premier League. Manchester United can come banging on their doors,” Fallaboweh added.
Minteh recorded seven goals and five assists during his first season at Brighton, followed by three goals and four assists last term. A strong return from injury could give Liverpool fresh confidence that the problem has not had a lasting impact.
Brighton’s valuation is likely to remain a significant factor, while interest from Manchester United could increase the competition for the player. Liverpool, however, already have the advantage of having made substantial bids during the summer.
Fallaboweh believes the attention generated by Liverpool’s pursuit could also broaden Minteh’s appeal among major European clubs.
“It’s a big win for him to be associated with Liverpool. So, it gives other big European clubs around the world to take a closer look at him now that they know Brighton’s actual price. So, it will be easier for them to explore it.”
For now, Minteh’s move to Anfield is on hold rather than definitively ended. His recovery and performances after returning to action will be central to determining whether the transfer story returns in January.
