Liverpool and Manchester United are monitoring Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven as both clubs assess their long-term options at centre-back.
The 25-year-old has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most sought-after defenders since joining Tottenham from Wolfsburg in 2023. His recovery speed, left-footed distribution and ability to defend in open spaces have attracted attention from leading clubs.

Sources close to the agents’ industry indicate that Liverpool’s interest is particularly significant. The club are planning for life after Virgil van Dijk, whose minutes are being managed more carefully this season, and Van de Ven is viewed as a potential long-term successor.
Van Dijk is 35, while Van de Ven offers the combination of pace, age and experience in English football that Liverpool are understood to value. The Dutchman has already made 96 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham and featured 45 times during the 2025-26 campaign, including 34 Premier League matches.
Manchester United are also keeping track of the defender as they continue to assess their own centre-back options. His ability to operate on the left side of defence, alongside his athleticism and Premier League experience, would appeal to a club still shaping its defensive core.
However, both clubs remain at the monitoring stage rather than pursuing an immediate deal.
Tottenham strengthened their position in August when Van de Ven signed a new long-term contract. The agreement extends beyond his previous 2029 expiry date, with Dutch reports placing the new end date in 2031.

There is no indication of a release clause in the new contract, leaving Tottenham in a position to set their own asking price should interest develop into a formal approach.
A valuation of between £80 million and £90 million is considered plausible, particularly following the contract extension. That figure would make any potential move difficult and expensive for both Liverpool and Manchester United.
Van de Ven has said that Tottenham feel like home and that he believes in the direction of the club under Roberto De Zerbi. For now, Spurs remain firmly in control of his future, although the situation could change if instability continues or Champions League football remains out of reach.
