Liverpool have joined the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt teenager Niko Ilicevic, with the 15-year-old attacking midfielder attracting interest from a growing number of leading European clubs.
Ilicevic has made an impressive start to the season while playing above his age group, earning attention for his performances at both club and international level.
Liverpool monitor Eintracht Frankfurt youngster
A report has identified Liverpool as the latest club monitoring the German youth international, while Bournemouth are also understood to be following his progress.
Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan and Inter are among the other clubs linked with Ilicevic. Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle have also been credited with an interest.
The left-footed midfielder has made an impact in the UEFA Youth League and has recorded three goals and three assists in six youth appearances this season. His displays for Germany’s Under-17 side have further strengthened his growing reputation.
Liverpool’s interest reflects the club’s focus on identifying promising young players, with Ilicevic viewed as a potential long-term investment.
Frankfurt plan gradual development for Ilicevic
Frankfurt are keen to retain control of the teenager’s development and believe he could be introduced to senior football gradually.
The Bundesliga club are in a strong position, with Ilicevic tied to Frankfurt until 2029. His current agreement is expected to become a professional contract when he turns 16 later this month.
Frankfurt have already set out a development pathway as they attempt to persuade the youngster that his future is best served in Germany.
No formal negotiations have begun, but the interest from Liverpool and several other major European clubs is likely to make Ilicevic’s situation one to watch once he becomes eligible to sign professional terms.
