Liverpool have reportedly joined Chelsea and Manchester United in monitoring Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal ahead of the January transfer window, with the teenager potentially available for around €30 million.
The 19-year-old has emerged as an appealing target for Premier League clubs after his prospects at Barcelona became less certain following Rodri’s arrival in the summer.
Liverpool track Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal
Reports from Spain suggest Liverpool are considering Bernal as they assess their midfield options. He is highly regarded for his composure, mobility and versatility, qualities that have made him an attractive long-term investment.
Bernal was given opportunities by Hansi Flick during Barcelona’s opening league fixtures and made an encouraging start to the season. However, he has since found himself further down the pecking order and has made several appearances from the bench.
A move to the Premier League could offer the Spain Under-21 international a route to more consistent first-team football, although Liverpool have not yet made a concrete approach.
Chelsea are also understood to be interested and could view Bernal as a fit for their strategy of recruiting young players. Manchester United are likewise keeping tabs on the midfielder as they consider ways to strengthen their options in the centre of the pitch.
Barcelona could demand about €30 million for Bernal, a fee that would make him a relatively affordable option for clubs with significant financial resources.
Liverpool may therefore face competition from both Chelsea and Manchester United if they decide to pursue the Barcelona youngster in January. For now, the midfielder’s future remains uncertain as the Premier League interest develops.
