Liverpool have been dealt an Alexander Isak injury setback after the striker was withdrawn from the Sweden squad with a toe problem.
Isak sustained the issue during Sweden’s latest fixture and has been released from international duty. He will return to Merseyside for assessment and treatment ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League meeting with Manchester City after the international break.

Liverpool said in a club statement: “Alexander Isak is to return from international duty due to a minor injury.”
The forward will miss Sweden’s three remaining fixtures during the current break, with the extent of the problem yet to be established.
Isak is expected to be assessed by Liverpool’s medical staff at the AXA Training Centre. Further tests and scans will determine whether he can recover in time to face Manchester City.
The timing is particularly unwelcome for Arne Iraola, with Isak having made an impressive start to the campaign. He has scored four goals in five Premier League appearances and has led Liverpool’s attack with his movement and finishing.
Liverpool will now wait for the medical findings to establish whether the toe injury is minor enough for Isak to feature in the high-profile clash.
