A 34-year-old man accused of pointing a gun at another driver in Mesa, Arizona, has been arrested after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop and barricading himself inside a home.
Israel Sosa was taken into custody on Friday, 11 September, following a stand-off involving SWAT teams from Mesa and neighbouring Chandler. No injuries were reported.
Mesa police were called to the area of Val Vista Drive and the US 60 shortly after 3pm after receiving reports that a driver had pointed a firearm at another motorist.
Officers identified Sosa as the suspect and attempted to stop his vehicle, but police said he drove away. The Mesa Police Air Unit tracked the car to a property near the 100 block of North 74th Street, close to East Main Street.
Police said Sosa then barricaded himself inside the residence. Mesa and Chandler SWAT teams attended as officers worked to resolve the incident.
After several hours, Sosa left the property and was arrested without further incident. Local roads, which had been affected by the police operation, were later reopened as the investigation continued.
Sosa was booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and reckless driving. The allegations have not been tested in court.
