FOUR men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a young man was found in a burnt-out house on the Isle of Wight.
Cops arrested two 24-year-olds and a 59-year-old following the suspected arson attack in the early hours of Friday morning.
All from Cowes on the island, the trio remain in custody on suspicion of murder and arson with intent to endanger life.
It comes after cops arrested a fourth man, 28, from Ventnor on Friday.
He was arrested on suspicion of murder, arson with intent to endanger life and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place but has been released on bail until September.
Emergency services, including ambulance and fire service, were called to a terrifying blaze at a property in Cowes around 3.30am on Friday.
Police evacuated the neighbouring homes as a precaution while the flames were brought under control.
Sadly a body was then found inside the burnt-out shell of the house, and the alleged victim, in his 20s, was declared dead at the scene.
Formal identification is yet to take place but his next of kin has been informed.
The cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious, cops said.
On Friday, a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman said: “Officers attended along with colleagues from Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and Isle of Wight Ambulance, with neighbouring addresses evacuated as a precaution whilst the fire was brought under control.
“One person has subsequently been located deceased within the property.
“No formal identification has taken place, however next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner.
“At this time the cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious.
“We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, or has doorbell, dashcam, or CCTV footage that they believe could assist with our investigation to come forward.”
The force added there will be an increased police presence in the area as its investigation continues.
