Ryo Uchimiya, a 51-year-old employee at Nobu in Malibu, has died after a 16-year-old driver allegedly crashed a Range Rover into his parked car while he was waiting inside.
Uchimiya had arrived early for work on Sunday and was in his vehicle on the Pacific Coast Highway when the collision occurred.
Police said the Range Rover appeared to have been travelling at speed. No charges have been filed and the investigation remains ongoing.
A witness said the teenage driver appeared stunned and confused after the crash. The witness also claimed the driver may not have had a licence and was left at the scene alone for around two hours.
Uchimiya worked at the Malibu restaurant, which is known for attracting celebrities.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has scheduled an examination of Uchimiya’s body.
