Prosecutors allege that the incident took place on 28 May, when the man was taken to Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital after trying to flee Border Patrol agents. He reportedly fell on the pavement and was taken for medical assessment following an evaluation by emergency medical workers.

Agents remained with him until he was moved to the hospital’s X-ray area, the complaint states. Freeman is accused of using her staff badge to enter the restricted area before directing the detainee towards an ambulance-bay exit, allowing him to leave the building.

The man, who was in federal custody at the time, has not been located by Border Patrol, officials said. Other reports said hospital security footage showed him leaving late that night after undergoing a scan.

Freeman was working as a registered nurse at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital when the alleged escape occurred. Trinity Health Michigan has confirmed that she no longer works for the organisation.

If convicted, Freeman could face up to one year in prison. The US Attorney’s Office stressed that the complaint is an accusation and that Freeman is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
