Richard Riehle’s cause of death has been recorded as a stroke, with oropharyngeal cancer listed as the underlying cause, according to his death certificate.
The Office Space actor died in Los Angeles on October 15. The document states that he was cremated on October 23.
Friends had previously said that Riehle died from natural causes.
Riehle had more than 400 acting credits across film and television, but was perhaps best known for playing Tom Smykowski in the 1999 cult comedy Office Space.
His character is laid off from Initech before a freak accident results in a substantial settlement, allowing him to pursue his plan to create the “Jump to Conclusions” mat.
Riehle also appeared in Casino, Fried Green Tomatoes and The Fugitive, as well as dozens of television programmes during his decades-long career.
He had filmed scenes for several forthcoming films before his death, although he did not live to see some of those projects completed.
