A 42-year-old man who died after being ejected from a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia was found beneath the ride, unresponsive and not breathing, police said.
Cobb County Police officers were called to the park at about 3.58pm on Monday, where they discovered Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem beneath the Goliath attraction.
Preliminary interviews with witnesses and park employees indicate that Mr Kariem was thrown from the ride and struck other visitors before falling to the ground.
Officers secured the scene and called in the department’s Major Crimes Unit to investigate the Six Flags Over Georgia roller coaster death.
Investigation into Goliath incident continues
Georgia’s Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire is conducting what it described as an “in-depth and comprehensive review” of the incident.
The review will examine what happened and whether all relevant safety rules and procedures were followed, the agency said.
Officials said they could not provide further details while the investigation remains open, but would release verified information once it has been completed.
Mr Kariem was later identified as the victim. His death has left his family mourning a devastating loss.
