Rio Ferdinand has joked that Manchester United could be in line for another Premier League medal after Manchester City were found guilty of 114 alleged financial fair play breaches by an independent commission.
The ruling could expose City to a range of sanctions, including a substantial points deduction, financial penalties or expulsion from the top flight. The commission also has the authority to remove domestic honours retrospectively from the seasons covered by the investigation.

Ferdinand responded to a social media update about the verdict with a reference to United’s past finishes behind their local rivals. He wrote: “Another premier league medal to be added to the cabinet 😂.”
The former England defender’s comment quickly attracted widespread attention as supporters debated whether titles could be reassigned if Manchester City’s honours were later nullified.
United finished runners-up to City in two of the seasons identified in the discussion. José Mourinho’s side came second in 2017/18, collecting 81 points as City became champions with 100.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær then led United to second place in 2020/21, when City finished top with 86 points and United ended the campaign on 74.
If the Premier League were to strip City of those titles and award them to the runners-up, United could theoretically receive two additional league trophies. No such redistribution has been confirmed.
