Selma Blair was taken into custody after an alleged physical altercation on a Delta flight from Los Angeles to New York, with two flight attendants reporting injuries, officials said.
The actor was identified as the suspect by the Port Authority following the aircraft’s arrival at John F Kennedy International Airport. She was taken to hospital for evaluation.
One of the injured flight attendants was also treated in hospital, according to a Port Authority spokesperson. The FBI is investigating what it described as a potential assault aboard a flight that arrived at JFK, while the Federal Aviation Administration is examining the incident as a passenger disturbance.
The FBI said it would not comment further on the ongoing investigation, citing longstanding Department of Justice policy.
A representative for Blair said she had experienced a medical emergency which led to the alleged conduct. “Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition,” the representative said.
The nature of the medical emergency was not disclosed. Blair revealed in 2018 that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disorder affecting the central nervous system.
Delta did not identify Blair but said it had “zero tolerance” for unruly or unlawful behaviour. “Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first,” the airline said.
Blair was involved in a separate incident on a plane in 2016, when she had a verbal outburst and accused another passenger of wanting to kill her. She was taken from the aircraft on a stretcher and later said she had mixed alcohol with medication.
At the time, Blair apologised to the passengers and crew, saying she took the incident seriously and was “filled with shame” over her behaviour.
