Selma Blair’s lawyer has attributed the actress’s arrest to severe confusion after she allegedly missed several doses of medication and suffered a head injury.
During an arraignment in criminal court, Blair’s legal team told the judge that the medication was used to manage serious neurological symptoms, in what appeared to be a reference to her multiple sclerosis. They also said she had fallen and hit her head before the alleged incident.
Blair was arrested on Sunday night following allegations that she punched one flight attendant and bit another on a Delta flight from Los Angeles to New York.
The situation allegedly escalated after the plane landed at JFK Airport. Blair is accused of repeatedly kicking a Port Authority police officer in the head while being taken to hospital, before allegedly attacking a nurse.
She pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault. A judge set bail at 20,000 US dollars in cash or a 60,000-dollar bond, and Blair was released on Monday night.
The judge also issued an order of protection for the nurse whom Blair is accused of assaulting.
The FBI is investigating the alleged incident on board the flight. Blair is due to return to court on January 19, 2027.
