Multiple people were shot at a party in Commerce, Texas, in the early hours of Saturday, with police describing the incident as isolated.
Officers were called to the north-eastern part of the city at about 3.30am on 3 October, where several people were found injured. They were receiving treatment, although authorities have not disclosed how many were hurt or the severity of their injuries.
The shooting did not take place on the campus of East Texas A&M University, police said. The university’s police department and Texas Rangers are assisting Commerce Police with the investigation.
It remains unclear what led to the shooting, and no information has been released about any suspect.
East Texas A&M said its counselling centre was available to students following the incident.
“Our hearts are with the students, families, and others affected by the shooting that occurred early this morning in Commerce,” the university said. “We know news like this is deeply concerning for our Lion Family.”
