Soulja Boy has teased a presidential run in 2028, raising the prospect of the rapper swapping the recording studio for the White House.
The “Crank That” hitmaker announced the possibility in an Instagram post on Saturday, sharing the message “SOULJA BOY 2028” alongside a statement outlining his interest in public service.
He said his priorities would include economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and the future of technology and artificial intelligence.
“From music to business to technology, I’ve always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what’s possible,” he wrote, adding that he was exploring how to bring the same vision to public service.
However, Soulja Boy has not formally declared his candidacy and has not said which political party he would represent.
The rapper has previously been linked to US presidential politics. He performed at the Crypto Ball during Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration festivities and responded to criticism by saying he had been paid handsomely for the appearance.
His potential candidacy was also referenced in a 2019 “Saturday Night Live” sketch, in which Chris Redd portrayed him in a scene inspired by the rapper’s viral “Breakfast Club” interview.
Soulja Boy would not be the first rapper to pursue the presidency. Kanye West ran for president in 2020.
