Rapper Soulja Boy has hinted at a possible 2028 presidential run, posting “SOULJA BOY 2028” on Instagram and suggesting he is considering a move from entertainment into public service.
The artist, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, said he wanted to draw on his experience in music, business and technology as he explored the prospect of entering politics.
“A new chapter. A bigger vision. A commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation,” he wrote in the post on 10 October.
He identified economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education and the future of technology and artificial intelligence as the four issues he would focus on.
“From music to business to technology, I’ve always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what’s possible,” Soulja Boy wrote. “Now I’m exploring what it means to bring that same vision to public service. The future starts with a conversation.”
There has been no formal campaign announcement, and Soulja Boy has not said whether he would seek the presidency as a Democrat, Republican or independent. He has also not set out detailed policies or explained how he would pursue the priorities listed in his post.
The rapper was born in Chicago and moved to Atlanta with his family at the age of six. He developed an interest in rap while growing up in the city before moving to Batesville, Mississippi, as a teenager to live with his father.
His breakthrough came with the 2007 single Crank That (Soulja Boy), which reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and remained at the top of the chart for seven non-consecutive weeks.
