Telstra customers across Australia were left confused after delayed missed-call alerts and voicemail notifications arrived together because of an issue with the company’s MessageBank service.
Telstra said the problem had been resolved by 5.45pm AWST on Wednesday, after acknowledging that some customers had received multiple notifications at once.
“We are aware of some customers receiving a number of delayed missed call and voicemail notifications arriving all at once,” the telecommunications company said in a statement posted to X.
“This is due to an issue with our MessageBank service earlier today, which has now been fixed. We are sorry for how confusing this must be.”
Telstra said the disruption did not affect triple-0 calls, voice calls or mobile data.
Unverified claims that the company had been hacked circulated on social media as customers sought an explanation. Telstra has been approached for further comment.
