Two men have been hospitalised after a shooting outside The Daiquiri Factory in north-west Atlanta, with one victim in critical condition, police said.
Gunfire broke out early on Thursday, 17 September, after a fight near the restaurant on Howell Mill Road NW. A 31-year-old man was shot in the head, while a 25-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the arm.
The younger man was described as stable. The older victim remained in a critical condition in hospital.
Atlanta police homicide detectives were called to the scene because of the seriousness of the injuries. Investigators believe a single gunman may have been involved, although that assessment could change as enquiries continue.
Police are also examining two vehicles believed to be linked to the shooting. Lieutenant Christapher Butler said a car found on Detroit Avenue had been set on fire, while another vehicle discovered on Peters Street SW was damaged by multiple bullet strikes.
The Daiquiri Factory is co-operating with the investigation, according to police.
No suspect has been identified and police have not confirmed whether anyone has been arrested. Detectives are working to establish whether surveillance footage captured the incident.
A witness who arrived shortly after the shooting said she initially mistook the sound of gunfire for a passing train.
“It was total mayhem,” she said, describing one man on the ground as people shouted around him and the other bleeding heavily.
